The Winter Solstice takes place on December 21, it will be the day that is deemed as the “shortest day of the year” as there won’t be as many hours of sunlight. Although Winter Solstice is the “shortest day of the year,” it will also be the start of more “longer” and brighter days ahead.

Some fun facts about December/Christmas:

  • Continuing the theme of “Jingle Bells” from last month, “Jingle Bells” was the first song played in space on December 16, 1965
  • Spiders are considered a symbol of good luck during Christmas in Ukraine
  • Santa’s North Pole postal code is actually a Canadian postal code. North Pole is a little closer to the U.S. than we thought!
  • The Statue of Liberty is the largest Christmas gift that was ever given in 1886 by France.
  • The largest gingerbread head ever made was the size of a real-life house in 2013 that is 160 feet long, 42 feet wide and 10.1 feet tall!
