Great for trying new ideas
Plain color wheels are great for trying out nail art techniques and new polishes. I don't always have time to paint three coats or four coats of polish to achieve opacity, so when I get new polish I can swatch it over the wheel and determine how many coats ahead of time. That way if I only have a few minutes I can choose a polish I know will be opaque in one coat. And when I have extra time to paint my nails I can choose one that requires a bit more effort and drying between layers. Swatch wheels are durable and are nicely maintained on a ring clip.
